AM

It was a room
As dull as can be
Where I first met her
The girl who grew on me

She appeared smart
In control, you know
But how could I’ve said
She’d become so much more

In the first few months
I came to know her well
But it was only the tip
As now I can tell

It might so appear
We are so very apart
And that may well be true
At least true in part

But we have a core
That’s same, so much so
If someone called us soul-sisters
I would not say ‘No’

She has a pure spirit
Unlike any I’ve seen
She thinks what she says
She says what she means

And she has a rare thirst
To know, to comprehend
To listen before speaking
With stranger, or with friend

Coz she is unbiased
Or as much as can be
She is open to a fault
This girl who grew on me

But the best thing about her
She breaks the stereotype
She’s un-slot-able
She’s above all that tripe

And I am a better person
Because of her, it’s true
And for life I can say
She’ll be part of my crew

So as I leave Unilever
I’ve gained so much, you see
And the best of it all

The girl who grew on me
